I'm a product manager at an insurance tech company and we need to integrate a curp verification service into our policy issuance workflow. We've identified three potential vendors but I'm struggling to define the evaluation criteria beyond basic functionality.
Our requirements for the curp verification service are:
Verify CURP validity against RENAPO in real time
Return full name, DOB, gender, and state of birth
Detect deceased individuals (critical for life insurance)
Handle at least 5,000 verifications per day during enrollment periods
99.9% uptime SLA (insurance regulations require high availability)
SOC 2 or equivalent security certification
Beyond these functional requirements, what else should I be evaluating? I'm particularly interested in hearing from teams that have switched curp verification service providers — what made you switch and what did you wish you'd evaluated upfront?
Also curious about contract terms. Are most providers month-to-month or do they require annual commitments? We'd prefer flexibility since we're still growing and our volumes are unpredictable.
Our dev team uses Python (Django) and we'd strongly prefer a provider with good REST documentation and ideally a Python SDK. Webhook support for async verification results would be a plus since some of our workflows don't need instant responses.
Any insights from the community would be greatly appreciated. This is a critical vendor decision for us and we want to get it right the first time rather than having to migrate later.
